Our Story
About the Lodge
Est. 2008
Born from a Love of Bhutan
Lingkhar Lodge was founded in 2008 by the Wangchuk family, who had spent generations as guardians of the Bumthang valley. Their vision was simple: to share the profound beauty of this hidden Himalayan kingdom with travellers who sought more than just another hotel stay.
Every stone of the lodge was laid by local craftsmen using traditional Bhutanese building techniques. Every textile was woven in the valley. Every recipe served in our dining room comes from the family's own cookbook, passed down through three generations.
Today, Lingkhar Lodge welcomes a limited number of guests each season, ensuring that each visitor receives the personal attention and genuine hospitality that Bhutanese culture demands. We are not a resort — we are your home in Bhutan.
How We Live
Our Commitments
Gross National Happiness
Bhutan's development philosophy guides everything we do. We measure success not by occupancy rates, but by the happiness and wellbeing of our guests, staff, and the surrounding community.
Environmental Stewardship
Bhutan is the world's only carbon-negative country. We honour that legacy through solar energy, rainwater harvesting, zero single-use plastics, and an organic kitchen garden that supplies 60% of our restaurant produce.
Cultural Preservation
We employ exclusively local artisans, purchase from local farmers and weavers, and ensure that every experience at the lodge supports the continuation of traditional Bhutanese crafts and customs.
Authentic Encounters
Our curated experiences are designed with input from village elders, monks, and community leaders to ensure that cultural exchanges are meaningful, respectful, and genuinely beneficial to both parties.
